This year, the Fall Foray was held on August 20th and 21st at Pine Valley Campground on the Mirror Lake Highway. With so much rain during July and August, we anticipated finding quite a few species. Indeed, the display table was already filling Friday night with finds from nearby, the campground itself, and specimens people had found on the way there.
Saturday morning we divided into four groups, with two exploring the Murdock Basin, one going to Pass lake, and one to the Highline Trailhead. We enjoyed a table tour given by former MSU president Adam Luker and had a bountiful potluck, supplemented with Boletus edulis (King Bolete) and Armillaria solidipes (Honey Mushrooms). Despite rain (and hail!), 2021 was one of the best mushroom years in living memory.
