32nd Annual
FALL FORAY

IMG_5316.jpg

Since the early days of the Mushroom Society of Utah, members have gathered at the peak of our fall season for the weekend-long campout event that we call the Fall Foray.

The event consists of lectures, workshops, demonstrations, and of course, forays!

Come meet the membership, gain knowledge from the community, and forage for and eat the mushrooms that our beautiful fall season has to offer!

2025 DETAILS

WHEN: August 22–24th (Fri-Sun).

WHERE: Francis Town Hall (2317 Spring Hollow Rd, Kamas, UT 84036).

We'll have a banner up so you can spot us! A nearby field will be rented for tents & trailers alike if you would like to camp nearby with the group (1914 South State Road 32). BLM land is also available for camping up the canyon, and there are of course many RV and campgrounds further up Mirror Lake Highway—just make sure to get a recreation pass from the nearby ranger's station (2 N Main Street).

WHO: Mushroom Society of Utah member households only. We do not allow additional guests at the Fall Foray since it is our highest-cost event of the year. If you're not yet a member, join the society before coming to the event—it's still worth it, even late in the year! Kids and dogs are welcome.

HOW: There is no need to register for the event as a whole. Just show up, sign in, and have fun! Lectures are open attendance, but forays and workshops do require in-person sign ups. These will open on Saturday morning. Workshops have limited space, but there will be room for every attendee to join a foray—we just need to spread out.

COST: Admission to the event is included in your membership. To help cover additional costs, we'd be happy to take donations at the event.

PREPARATION DETAILS:

  • We will have potlucks for dinner and coffee and light bites for breakfast, but you will need to bring/prepare for your own lunch and snacks (there are some restaurants along Main Street that you can visit). We appreciate if you can plan to bring a dish one or both of the potlucks; mushrooms are of course encouraged, but not required!

  • Make sure your car is prepared to head up the canyon. We highly encourage carpooling up to the forays if you are able/comfortable to accommodate others in your vehicle. Note that Mirror Lake Highway requires a rec pass, if you don't have one, they can be obtained at the ranger's station in town. The America the Beautiful national parks pass covers MLH.

  • Pack wisely! Here is our recommended packing list.

SCHEDULE: We're still working on confirming speakers, but below is the skeleton agenda to help you prepare! You can see the details of each item on this document (note: it's not complete, so it is subject to change!).
